Katie Reider

NEWPORT, KY – Please come and join us on Saturday November 29, 2008 at The Southgate House in Newport, KY to honor the memory and music of one of the kindest souls I have ever met, Katie Reider. In July of 2007, Katie was diagnosed with a rare tumor that ate into her jaw and face, stole her voice, left her blind in one eye and ultimately killed her July 14, 2008 at the age of 30. Katie had two young children and her devoted life partner Karen, whom she had been with for 10 years. Get to know Katie Reider’s genuine talent, wit and personality by joining us on 11/29 as we continue to help keep Katie’s voice alive for an audience that might not have known her in life, but who might be touched even in her death.

At Karen Reider’s request proceeds from the show will benefit local Cincinnati musician Chris Walker and Play It Forward.

The brainchild of Gary Burbank, Play It Forward’s mission is outline below:
Play It Forward Mission Statement:
“The dedication of musicians to their craft and to the enjoyment of so many sometimes comes at the expense of their financial security and well being, occasionally leaving them in very dire straits. We seek to educate the public about those cases and to create and manage an investment fund whose annual profits will be used to assist Greater Cincinnati musicians and their families in times of catastrophic need.”

Many of us already know Chris Walker. Chris played in what seemed at times so many bands that you would think he had cloned himself. Some of the bands Chris played in included Heavy Weather, Walker Project, Naked Redheads, Whitney Barricklow, among others I’m sure I’m forgetting. Chris was in a serious car accident last Sept (2007). He is wheel chair bound, but has some use of his arms. Chris is a friend to so many that Karen thought that Katie would agree with giving him half of the proceeds. We are also taking a dvd/movie collection for Chris Walker, be sure to drop off a couple movies at the Merch table.

Bands performing include Kim Taylor, Kelly Thomas & The Fabulous Pickups, Lauren Houston, G. Burton, Emily Strand (full band), Carole Walker, Whitney Barricklow (full band), Crick Gypsies, Lines and Spaces, The Screaming Mimes , Downtown County Band, Tupelo Honey (Heather & Katie), Ann Driscoll, Amber Nash. Katie Reider’s drummer Bill McCarthy will be sitting in with both Emily Strand and Whitney Barricklow. Katie’s songs will also be performed by a majority of the performers.
