Flogging Molly

Los Angeles, CA – June 15, 2009. Flogging Molly recently celebrated an accomplishment that most musicians only dream of, the receipt of their first Gold Record. After over ten years of touring and an amazing fan base that grows each week, the band’s 2002 release “Drunken Lullabies” cruised past the 500,000 unit mark earlier this month, and was officially certified gold by the RIAA.

This week Flogging Molly announced a series of West Coast dates that will take place in September with legendary LA ska/rocksteady outfit Hepcat. The tour will include two legendary plays at venues the band is extremely proud to add to their touring history: Red Rocks in Denver, CO and the Greek Theater in their hometown of Los Angeles, CA.

Tickets go on sale for most of Flogging Molly’s September West Coast Tour on Saturday, June 20th through all of the normal ticket outlets. For more detailed ticket info and updates on this tour, visit www.floggingmolly.com.

Prior to the West Coast tour, Flogging Molly will be hitting the stage at the 2nd Annual Rothbury Festival on July 3rd with the likes of Bob Dylan, Cold War Kids, and Willie Nelson, as well as the summer festival staple Milwaukee Summerfest on July 4th. The band will then join the Vans Warped Tour for a two week stint, headlining with notable punk icons such as Bad Religion, NOFX, and Anti-Flag.

Flogging Molly are currently touring in support of their 2008 full-length Float, which was called “one of the most important CDs of the year, if not the decade” by Alternative Press and landed at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 charts, fueled by the singles “Float” and “Requiem For A Dying Song.”

Drawing on the hardships and joys of their own lives and a musical history ranging from old world Celtic to modern day punk rock, the seven members of Flogging Molly do it with a charm and an ease that makes them one of the most accessible bands performing today. “We’re not a traditional band,” explains Dublin born singer/songwriter, Dave King. “We are influenced by traditional music and inspired by it, and we put our own little twist on it.”

Founded in Los Angeles in 1997 by the expatriate King, Flogging Molly got its start and its name from a local bar called Molly Malone’s where the band played and grew and laid down the blueprint for its eventual success. As every member of Flogging Molly will emphatically explain, there were no predetermined expectations for the band’s sound.
