Cincypunk Fest, the city’s largest independent charity music festival, is taking over The Historic Southgate House in Newport, KY on Friday, Apr. 9 and Saturday, Apr. 10. The event, which has raised $25,500 for local charities since Jan. 2005, will feature 36 accomplished local bands playing punk, indie, bluegrass, ska, folk, blues, and rock music on three different stages during the two-night event.
This year’s event benefits the no kill, non-profit Animal Adoption Foundation in Hamilton, OH, which provides a safe and humane environment for dogs and cats that are waiting to be adopted by loving families. Proceeds will be split with Cincinnati’s Friends of the Children, which connects children from Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky who have accumulated the most heartache and trouble in their young lives with a paid professional adult role model who develops an intensive one-on-one relationship with each child.
Past events have benefited Northern Kentucky’s Women’s Crisis Center, the Mental Health Association, Lighthouse Youth Services, Animal Adoption Foundation, Camp Ernst YMCA’s Core Character Development program, and to pay the medical bills of a local musician suffering from testicular cancer.
