Reviewing a New York JJ Grey & Mofro show last fall, the New York Times said it was “dripping with both wildness and cool” and praised its “Southern swamp rock, with undercurrents of Memphis soul.” There’s a lot of swamp and soul (including guest appearances by Toots Hibbert and Derek Trucks) on Grey’s new album ‘Georgia Warhorse,’ out August 24th from Alligator, and he’ll be bringing both to cities across North America for the next four months. In fact, he spends over 200 days on the road every year.

Audiences from Tampa to Seattle will see why the Times says Grey’s songs “chronicle ambiguous truths and unambiguous urges” and that Mofro “has one of the great unhurried rhythm sections in rock, capable of heavy track-laying but comfortable with airy fluctuation.” The Chicago Sun-Times describes Grey’s songs as “Inspired, deliciously funky, deep-in-the-pocket front porch soul.”

JJ Grey has shared stages with the likes of the Allman Brothers Band, the Black Crowes, Los Lobos, Jeff Beck, Ben Harper, Booker T, Lenny Kravitz and Mavis Staples, and has performed at The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest and The Austin City Limits Festival, among others.
