Vandaveer are proud to announce the release of their third full-length album, Dig Down Deep, on April 26th via Supply & Demand Music. Dig Down Deep was produced by long-time collaborator Duane Lundy (Jim James, These United States) and is Vandaveer’s finest effort to date. The band has also launched a new website at www.vandaveer.net/.

Mark Charles Heidinger is the alt-folk tunesmith behind the song-singing, record-making, globetrotting project that is Vandaveer. Born in Ohio, raised in Kentucky and now living in Washington, DC, Heidinger is joined by the extraordinary Rose Guerin in Vandaveer. They met during the heyday of DC’s folk collective known as The Federal Reserve. Informal collaborations during that time led to Guerin becoming a fixture in Vandaveer. Their two voices together create harmonies that convey truth and emotion with the greatest of ease.

On Dig Down Deep, Heidinger and Guerin narrate the stories of Vandaveer’s characters with remarkable grace and eloquence. The title track opens the album with Mark singing, “Dig down deep, don’t fold / For the faintest wind might blow,” offering hope in the face of despair. “Concerning Past & Future Conquests” could be sung on a porch with your closest friends while watching the Kentucky sun go down. The rolling guitars and constant, subtle percussion on “Beat, Beat My Heart” evoke the feeling of being overcome with love. Mark and Rose candidly confess, “I’ll wager my fate for a glimpse of Technicolor love / Oh, enough with all these grays.” “Spite” is dripping with tongue-in-cheek wordplay. The album closes with a stunning reworking of “The Waking Hour,” which first appeared on last year’s A Minor Spell EP. This haunting ballad is anchored by delicate piano and electric guitar, but Mark and Rose’s voices are what really shine here. They take a tale of deep anguish and personal struggle and turn it into one of perseverance and optimism, conceding “We stood stone still at the base of a mighty case of stairs / Stared straight up, searched for signs, such a steep affair.” It’s these heartfelt and honest lyrics that make Dig Down Deep an album that stands up over multiple plays.
