Bioré® Skincare Presents ‘Ladies First’ at MidPoint Music Festival

Just days before the entire 2011 MidPoint Music Festival (MPMF) schedule is revealed, the festival announces MidPoint’s Bioré® Strip: three stages along one block of Jackson Street dedicated to showcasing the pioneering women of 2011.

MidPoint’s Bioré® Strip features the Know Theatre Main Stage, Know Theatre Second Stage and ArtWorks Stage and will present music created by women from all over the world, including Beijing, China; Christchurch, New Zealand; Toronto, Canada; New Orleans; San Francisco; Brooklyn, N.Y.; Nashville; Denver; Los Angeles; Minneapolis; Chicago; Columbus; and of course Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

Schedule highlights on the three stages include Rolling Stone “artist to watch” Jessica Lea Mayfield; Deerhoof, with frontwoman Satomi Matsuzaki’s “cryptic choreography and pitch perfect vocals” (Time Out New York); Bachelorette, aka New Zealand native Annabel Alpers’ electropop and “androgynous vocals – a drowsy Marc Bolan dreaming on helium” (Uncut Magazine); Xiu Xiu’s “cultivated chaos … complex music filled with insinuating hooks” (Pitchfork); and Tristen, recently featured in Vogue Magazine.

Now in its 10th year, the MidPoint Music Festival joins with Cincinnati’s own Kao Brands Company, a leader manufacturer of beauty care brands, to bring attention to the prominent role women play at MPMF each year. Leah Stone, Assistant Bioré® Skincare Brand Manager, says, “Our consumer possesses an entrepreneurial spirit, with a passion for beauty, style and excellence. MidPoint is a great fit for us.”

“MidPoint is an amplification of Cincinnati, and our acclaimed local music scene has a long history of women leading the way,” says MPMF Executive Producer Dan McCabe. “I’m excited to have Bioré® Skincare help us tell that story this year.”

The biggest drawing acts of recent MPMFs have been pioneering women, including performances from Best Coast, Tom Tom Club, Phantagram, Shonen Knife, Chairlift, Cults and Cincinnati’s Heartless Bastards. Cincinnati’s reputable music scene has been championed by such female performers as Fairmount Girls, Radiolaria, Lazy, Over the Rhine, Kim Taylor, Ali Edwards, Wussy, Tracy Walker and The Seedy Seeds.
