Singer-songwriter Eleni Mandell will open for Nick Lowe on his fall tour of the US, which commences on September 18 in Albany, New York. Her recently released album I Can See The Future (Yep Roc) has been hailed as “timeless” (American Songwriter), and praised for its “grace and sensitivity” and “breezy, likeable retro-pop” (All Music Guide).

On Tuesday, September 25, Mandell and Lowe will appear in concert at the 20th Century Theater, 3021 Madison Road in Cincinnati. Tickets are priced at $25.00 and $30.00, and are available at the box office at 513-731-1000 or via Ticketweb.

Over the years, Mandell has drawn comparisons to Elvis Costello, Patsy Cline, Norah Jones, PJ Harvey, and a host of other abundantly gifted singers and composers, but I Can See The Future’s sophisticated songcraft and her “voice’s versatility and nuance” firmly establish her as a “great songstress” (Blurt) in her own right, and “a songwriter of the highest ilk” (Paste).

I Can See The Future was born of a tumultuous time in Mandell’s life, during which she was recovering from the dissolution of several long-term relationships – both romantic and professional. But the single defining event that informs the album’s lyrical content is perhaps Mandell’s greatest creation: her twins, who were born in 2011.

They inspired such clever, insightful gems as “Bun in the Oven,” “Never Have to Fall in Love Again,” and “The Future,” and prompted the Nashville Scene’s Jewly Hight to observe that the album is a “marvelously self-aware work of a contemporary woman whose determination to make her own choices about living, loving and childbearing comes through in interesting ways.”
