Acclaimed Canadian duo Whitehorse will play in Newport at The Historic Southgate House Revival on Tuesday, March 5 in support of their January 15 U.S. release,The Fate Of The World Depends On This Kiss (Six Shooter Records). The Fate Of The World Depends On This Kiss has been embraced by the top Canadian press and the U.S. press is taking notice as well:

The Fate of the World Depends on This Kiss further establishes Whitehorse as a
songwriting duo not afraid to push creative boundaries.” – The National Post

…an album that slaloms between angelic harmonies and bluesy hellfires.
– American Songwriter

… a gutsy, twisted take on Americana — Canadiana, anybody? — with a
phenomenal vocal blend…” – Huffington Post

Simply put, McClelland and Doucet are kinda perfect together; their voices either
blend effortlessly or bounce back and forth with complementary character, and
the minimally appointed songs they come up with together roll over you
pleasingly like they’ve been around forever.” – Toronto Star

Whitehorse mines unorthodox sounds with their music, their live performances are mesmerizing as the couple exchange multiple instruments (guitar, bass, keys, kick drum, stomp box, etc) throughout their set and often during songs, while incorporating live loops, telephone receiver microphones and soaring harmonies. The duo’s creative resourcefulness for instruments inspired this MTV Hive feature, “Five Weird Instruments Used By Whitehorse”: http://www.mtvhive.com/2013/01/11/whitehorse-fate-of-the-world-interview-weird-instruments/ This performance of “No Glamour In The Hammer” with CBC (NPR equivalent) showcases the duo’s artistry and live looping craft: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HR5i1xFbzF8

Formed in 2011, Whitehorse is the musical and real-life, marriage of singer/songwriter Melissa McClelland and guitar virtuoso Luke Doucet. As solo artists, both have been recognized in their homeland with awards and nominations ranging from Juno Awards to The Polaris Prize to The Independent Music Awards.
