Fresh from her successful debut at the 2013 Folk Alliance International Conference in Toronto, Carole Walker Music is pleased to announce her next major stage performance will be at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. In its 27th year, SXSW is known as “the biggest and most anticipated convergence of all things music.” A GoGirls Music Elite Member for the last two years, Walker started the Cincinnati-Columbus chapter of GoGirls – an online networking platform to connect, support and encourage female singer songwriters.
In Austin, Walker will be playing at the GoGirls Music showcase at Austin Java, 1206 Parkway (at 12thand Lamar) on Saturday, March 16th. She is inviting Cincinnati music lovers to join her at Stanley’s Pub (323 Stanley Ave) in Columbia Tusculum on Saturday, March 9th for her Kick-off to Austin show.
This will be Walker’s first appearance at SXSW but she is not new to the music scene in Southwest Ohio. She began as the powerful voice that drove local band, Heavy Weather, a musical collaboration she co-founded with her brother, the late Christopher Walker. After a grueling tour schedule across the Mid-west for nearly ten years “Heavy Weather” took a hiatus and Walker formed “The Walker Project” to focus on her songwriting. Currently living in Columbus, Ohio, Walker plays both Columbus and her home town of Cincinnati. Her recent shows in Columbus have been at Brothers Drake Meadery and Bethel Road Pub. Her upcoming shows in Cincinnati include Stanley’s Pub, College Hill Coffee House, and Pike’s Lounge in Covington. She describes her sound as soul with a funky kick.
In 2003, Carole was nominated and received the Cincinnati Music award (Cammy) for best Hip-hop vocal and has four CDs to her credit “The Difference”, “As My World”, “Live,” and “You Can Be Yourself.” She is working on an EP with the working title of “Bloom” for release later this year.
