CINCINNATI — Still breathless from the honor of receiving a 2013 Cincinnati Entertainment Award for Best Alternative / Indie act, the Seedy Seeds are headed out on a whirlwind spring tour of north and south. The Ohio-based indie band will play seven dates, from Indiana to Tennessee, and head to Austin to perform for the fifth consecutive year at South by Southwest.

The Seedy Seeds’ signature sound is equal parts folk, electro and pop, has been lauded by PASTE Magazine, and described by NPR as “dizzying, perplexing and wonderfully fun.” Formed in late 2005 as a creative partnership between longtime Cincinnati punk denizen Mike Ingram and songwriter / visual artist Margaret Darling, the group has released three full-length records and two EPs. Their 2011 single, “Verb Noun,” enjoyed four weeks in the CMJ Top 200. In addition to South by Southwest (SxSW), the Seedy Seeds have appeared at various music festivals around the United States and Canada, including the Forecastle Music Festival, Boomslang, Midpoint Music Festival, and the CMJ Music Marathon.

The Seeds’ road to SxSW this year will begin (with tour mates The Ridges) in Indianapolis on March 4, then swing through four states in six days, with stops in Columbus, Cincinnati, Lexington, Louisville, Chattanooga and Nashville. On March 12, they will play the Hipstamatic Morning After showcase at SxSW, with an Austin encore as part of the Vulcan Army lineup March 15.

We’re in our most natural state on the road,” said co-front Darling. “‘We get to get out and do what we do. It’s an adventure, and after being cooped up for a while, sometimes one feels the need to stretch the legs and get rowdy.”

From the Republic of Texas, the Seeds will make a mad 36-hour dash over the northern border, playing a two-day stand in Toronto as part of the Canadian Music Fest. They are no strangers to the land of maple syrup and colorful money – their run at North by Northeast last year was well-received.

“Outside of actually performing, we’re looking forward to just spending time in Toronto—one of our most favorite places on Earth,” Darling offered. “We’re still on the hunt for vegan poutine; perhaps we’ll finally find it this time.”
