Swedish afro-psychedelic group, Goat, will be visiting the Cincinnati area on their
way to the Austin Psych Fest and making a rare appearance at the newly opened
Southgate House Revival in Newport, KY on Friday, April 26th. Opening the night
will be Goat’s tour-mates Holy Wave (Austin, TX), who made an attempt to play in
Cincinnati last October, but were thwarted by van troubles. The show is a part of the
Cincy Psych Fest Freak-Out Series, a string of psych-minded shows leading up to the
annual Cincy Psych Fest in October. The show is open to 18+. Tickets are $10 in
advance of the show or $12 day of, and can be purchased in person, at the
Southgate House Revival, Shake it Records, or online via Ticket Fly.

In the last year, Goat has hit the psych scene in a big way. Their debut album, World
Music, has made it onto countless best-of lists, and their current tour is already
selling out shows in larger cities. Goat is a unique collective who hails from a small
and very remote village called Korpolombolo in deepest, darkest part of Sweden.
Legend has it that for centuries, the inhabitants of the village of Korpolombolo were
dedicated to the worship and practices of Voodoo. This strange and seemingly
unlikely activity was apparently introduced into the area after a travelling witch
doctor and a handful of her disciples were led to Korpolombolo by following a
cipher hidden within their most sacred of ancient scriptures. The reason it led them
there is unknown, but their Voodoo influence quickly took hold over the whole
village and so they made it their home – there, they were able to practice their craft
unnoticed and unbothered for several centuries. This was until their non-Christian
ways were discovered by the Church and they were burned out by the crusaders, the
survivors cursing the village over their shoulders as they fled. To this day, the now
picturesque village of Korpolombolo is still haunted by this Voodoo curse; the
power of the curse can be felt throughout the grooves of Goat’s records.

Holy Wave is a band of multi-instrumentalists from Austin, TX. Originally from El
Paso, the band’s sound has evolved into a unique blend of sun-baked surfpsychedelia.
Holy Wave creates a brand of psych that brings to mind fellow Texans
like The 13th Floor Elevators and modern contemporaries like The Black Angels and
Night Beats, dyed in carefully constructed noise with an attention to detail echoing
the work of shoegaze influences like My Bloody Valentine and Spectrum.
