Cincinnati Indie Rockers Koala Fires release an album of rare and unreleased material plus the first single off of their upcoming LP

The Koala Fires will release a new digital only Rarities album entitled ‘Ashes to Ashes’ on June 1, 2013. The album includes material that spans the career of the band reaching as far back as 2006 when founding member Matt Mooney and recording engineer Ken Petrosky recorded some songs with Adam Wolf and Noah Allen of the band The Long Goodnight that were to become the first Koala Fires EP. This EP, entitled ‘Fibbo Not Xi’, was never released as it wasn’t quite the sound Mooney was looking for to debut the band.

As the current line-up readies for the release of it’s Sophomore LP “Doom of the Norns” this summer and the subsequent retiring of the Koala Fires project by the end of 2013, Mooney has decided it is time to collect some of the less available music that has been created over the past years and release it in one collection.

“I’m happy some of these songs are seeing the light of day.” Mooney says “Each one has a lot of memories surrounding it, and are a testament to some of the great people I’ve gotten to work with over the past 7 years.” ; A reference to the different line-ups that Mooney has played with since the first recordings. “It’s never easy to end something, but having a reference like ‘Ashes to Ashes’ is like looking at a band family photo album; experiences we had together that others didn’t really get to see. Now, as we look forward to new chapters in our musical careers, we’d like others to take a look and have a listen, if they want to.”

Carrying forward with their new 100% DIY creative ethic, The band is hand-making Koala Fires matchbooks that will contain the download codes for the album.

Along with songs from the unreleased “Fibbo Not Xi” EP, the album also contains the song “Voyager Two” from their first released EP “Sleep Tight, Lucky Grills”, B-sides to singles from their first LP “The Beeping in Our Hearts”, an unreleased song from the “Beeping” recording sessions, Demos that the band recorded themselves (including the only song that former member Kendall Bruns wrote for the band entitled “Dehydrated, Dehydrated”), and a podcast recording in which Bruns (after having left the band) interviews Mooney about the upcoming “Doom of the Norns” album and Mooney performs the title track acoustically.

The band is planning a release party for ‘Ashes to Ashes’ at Mainstay Rock Bar (downtown, Cincinnati) on Saturday June 1st, 2013. Also performing will be the Cincinnati based bands House of Feeble Minds and Hot For Alice. There will be no cover charge and all guests over 21 are welcome. ‘Ashes to Ashes’ matchbooks will be available for purchase by naming the purchase amount, and each paid purchase will include a free CD copy of “Grim is the Doom of the Norns” the initial single from “Doom of the Norns” which will be releasing August 24th, 2013.
