This summer T. Hardy Morris will hit the road in support of Audition Tapes, the debut solo album from the talented and prolific Athens, GA based musician, out July 30th on Dangerbird Records. The first single “OK Corral” is now available for fans to download free at T.HardyMorris.com. The dates, which follow his tour this spring as front man of Dead Confederate, will see him playing as the invited guest Patterson Hood & The Downtown Rumblers. Morris will also play his festival debut at this weekend’s inaugural Shakey Knees fest in Atlanta, GA. Upcoming tour dates below.

Recorded at Playground Sound studios with Cosmic Thugproduction team Justin Collins and Adam Landry, the sessions behind Audition Tapes came to be with the help of a variety of Morris’ talented circle of friends who “dropped by” to lend a hand, including Delta Spirit’s Matt Vasquez, Black Lips/Diamond Rugs guitarst Ian Saint Pe,drummer Julian Dorio (The Whigs), steel guitarist Matt “Pistol” Stossel, and keyboardist Thayer Serrano. Both Serrano and Stossel will join Morris on the road for upcoming tour dates as the trio duplicate their efforts in the studio live.

Audition Tapes finds Morris abundantly inspired, oftentimes invoking the grand spirits of Elliot Smtih, Alex Chilton or fellow Georgian Vic Chesnutt. On songs such as “Quit Diggin”, “Hard Stuff” and especially the gorgeous title track, listeners are treated to intimate, fragile performances, so informal that we are invited to hear creaks and count-offs, finger taps on guitar strings and other warm and extraneous studio noise.

Ever ambitious about the projects he undertakes, in a nod to the nostalgic tinge running throughAudition Tapes Morris and filmmaker/photographer Jason Thrasher have traveled to 10 historic sites throughout Georgia to film live performance “takeaway” videos of each song on the record. All of these sites have been chosen for the “Places In Peril” List, published annually by the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation (Learn More), which seeks to identify and preserve historic sites threatened by demolition and neglect. Over the coming weeks Morris will be releasing each video to draw attention to the “Places in Peril” list. Contact us to learn more about the “Audition Tapes From Places in Peril” takeaway sessions.
