Build Me Up From Bones, the third release from acclaimed 22-year-old singer/songwriter/multi-
Over the past four years Jarosz has covered a remarkable amount of ground for someone so young. She has toured across the US, UK and Canada, appeared on A Prairie Home Companion, and taped Austin City Limits and the BBC Series The Transatlantic Sessions. Her two previous records received high praise from outlets including Rolling Stone, USA Today, Paste, Mojo and American Songwriter.
The growth in Jarosz’s songwriting is prominent on this new release. She penned nine out of the eleven tracks, and while Jarosz previously tended to write and sing in third person narratives, her new material connects in a much more personal way. Love songs such as “Build Me Up From Bones” pair vulnerability with enough mystery to allow listeners to find their own meaning. The covers she has chosen–Joanna Newsom’s “Book of Right-On” and Bob Dylan’s “Simple Twist of Fate” reflect the breadth of her evolving influences.
Build Me Up From Bones was co-produced with Sarah’s longtime collaborator – GRAMMY® award-winning engineer and producer Gary Paczosa. The concept was to keep the focus of the album on a trio configuration of Alex Hargreaves (fiddle) and Nathaniel Smith (cello) that Jarosz has been touring with since 2010. As the recording progressed, other guests were added, including Dan Dugmore, Darrell Scott and Chris Thile, building a tasteful instrumental backdrop for Jarosz’s warm and expressive vocals.
Sarah Jarosz is that rare combination of instrumental virtuosity, emotive vocals and songwriting chops. With a college degree under her belt, a stunning new release completed and a national tour beginning, she continues to chart her own unique artistic path.
