Widely acclaimed, Cincinnati-based American ensemble Terminal Union have unquestioningly made their arrangements in the heart of our region’s blooming Roots music scene. The Whispering Beard Folk Festival regulars celebrate the release of their latest recording, “Making Arrangements” on July 20 at The Southgate House Revival in Newport, Kentucky.

This is no run-of-the-mill local release: Rife with guest performers, it includes a who’s-who of the esteemed local Americana community, including members of The Tillers, Josh Eagle & The Harvest City, Hickory Robot, and trumpet sensation Michael Mavridoglou (among others).

“Making Arrangements” is an honest record with 12 original songs, all written by founding members Ian Mathieu & David Faul.  The rhythm section is rounded out by Mark Becknell on drums & Lynette Mathieu (Ian’s wife) on upright bass.  Key lyrical moments include “Raise your hands for the prince of darkness / and all the songs that he dropped upon us“ on David Faul’s tribute to his musical influences on “Magnificent Sounds” – but it’s not all examination of the gloom. The next track, three tracks in and already its signature moment, Ian Mathieu’s “Comeback Kid”, goes after the resolving morning after, too – the jubilant band crashes in with “all I wanna be is the comeback kid…maybe it’s too late to make it right / but I just can’t give up without a fight.”  Even on the closer, “Thing’s Left To Do”, Faul is still haunted by  unresolved questions… “dustin’ off my daddy’s guns and giving them a whirl / these are some of the things I’ve left to do.”

“Dave and I are extremely proud of the songs on this album,” said Ian Mathieu, “Every song on this record comes from personal experience.  Nothing on here is fiction, just straight truth at its core.” David Faul added, “Ian and I set out to make an album that would touch people on a deeply personal and emotional level. I feel our friendship, hard work and passion for the finest songwriting traditions has allowed us to make that kind of record.”

Tickets for this one-time-only release performance are available in advance and at the door, while room capacity lasts. Supporting the show are equally high stars of the regional Songwriter-Folk galaxy, Ben Knight & The Well Diggers, and Buffalo Wabs and The Price Hill Hustle. Other surprise guests are to be announced.  For more ticketing information, visit www.southgatehouse.com or call 859-431-2201.  The $10 cost of admission includes a free CD of “Making Arrangements”.
