There is something magnetic, vulnerable, dangerous, and electric about 27-year-old Angela Perley that has been causing a lot of buzz around the artist and her band The Howlin’ Moons lately. Demure and quiet off stage, the performer usually shocks people when she tells them she is the lead singer in a band. “Yeah, usually when I’m talking to people I tell them I perform in a rock and roll band. Putting on a show is my way of being heard, I guess,” says Perley.

Growing up in small town Ohio, Perley spent years as an observant wallflower engrossing herself in poetry, literature, people, and films. “I am a storyteller at heart, always have been. I get a lot of inspiration from relationships, surroundings, poetry, and old movies. Music for me is a way to express feelings I can’t get out any other way, and when I hit the stage with the band I can turn up and let go.”

Perley’s band features longtime friends Billy Zehnal and Chris Connor on bass and lead guitar and Perley’s high school friend Steve Rupp on drums. Since their incarnation in 2009, the band has released four EPs on Vital Music USA and has toured extensively. The group’s first full-length record, Hey Kid, due out in January 2014 is highly anticipated in both the US and UK where the group has been gaining a steady grassroots following through live shows as radio airplay. The explosive single “Hurricane” is the band’s most gritty blast-you-off-the-wall song yet, and the record as a whole is sure to broaden Perley’s audience with its abundance of memorable songs that leap from fiery to heartbreak-delicate. Quietly building her craft through the years and playing shows with her band for anyone who will listen, Angela Perley is sure to be revered as the next female forerunner of music that is truly potent and refreshing.
