Columbus, Ohio-based band Red Wanting Blue returns this summer on July 1st with Little America, it’s most personal and promising album to date. “Black Canyon,” an album cut from the new record, is available via an exclusive premiere courtesy of American Songwriter now.

In the years since vocalist and songwriter Scott Terry formed Red Wanting Blue, the band has gone on to establish itself as a quintessential example of American perseverance and hard work, building an exceedingly loyal fanbase based on non-stop touring, all without any industry support.

Known for making instant fans of the uninitiated with one of the mostengaging and passionate live shows on the road today, Red Wanting Bluefound even bigger audiences after the release of its 2012 From The Vanishing Point album, which landed in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and at #1 for the band’s home region.

Appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” VH1’s “Big Morning Buzz Live,” and NPR’s “Mountain Stage” followed, and while Red Wanting Blue continues to reach new and bigger career milestones, the band is also staying true to its roots.

About “Black Canyon,” Terry explains, “I wanted the song to have the youthful confidence of ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’ by Tears For Fears and the power of Bob Mould’s Hoover Dam’ off of Sugar’sCopper Blue.”

As for the song’s theme, he says, “I was taken by the ending of Tim Burton’s‘Big Fish’ where the father is carried to the river’s edge, smiling and waving to all that have gathered for his final moments. What a stunning and magnificent end to a life! ‘Black Canyon’ is my way of saying, ‘We will not go softly into that good night.’”

The new Red Wanting Blue album Little America arrives on July 1st.  The band will announce a full U.S. tour later this month.
