The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) presents an all-American performance for its Friday and Saturday, April 25-26 concerts at historic Music Hall, featuring the thrilling sounds of Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein and Steven Mackey. Also, as part of its collaboration with Orchestras Feeding America, the CSO will be offering tickets at a discounted price of $10 to all who make a canned food donation (Friday only). All donations collected will benefit the local Cincinnati Freestore Foodbank.
Leading this performance is esteemed conductor David Robertson. With his energetic expressions and uncanny precision, Mr. Robertson has been capturing the attention of audiences world-wide at the podium. For this performance, Mr. Robertson will be leading the orchestra in three of Bernstein’s dynamic, jazz-influenced episodes from On the Town and Barber’s poignant Adagio for Strings.
Joining Robertson on the CSO stage is his wife, piano superstar Orli Shaham. Ms. Shaham has earned a modern piano repertoire that features her crisp keyboard touch, uncommonly nuanced approach to tone and phrase, well-crafted and engaging solos, and sparkling accompanying passages (Chicago Tribune). Audiences will be sure to catch some of Ms. Shaham’s contagious joy as she performs Steven Mackey’s complex and unforgettable Stumble to Grace, a piece which cleverly depicts the five stages of childhood development. The piece was written explicitly for her, inspired by her and Mr. Robertson’s children, who are frequent playmates of the composer’s own.
This husband and wide duo will conclude this concert with Bernstein’s Age of Anxiety.
Tickets for this concert start at just $12 (on Friday tickets are just $10 with canned food donation) and are available by calling the CSO Box Office at (513) 381-3300 or visiting www.cincinnatisymphony.org.
