Richard Thompson To Perform A Solo Acoustic Set At Miami University – Middletown

Richard Thompson will perform a solo acoustic show at Miami Middletown’s Dave Finkelman Auditorium on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of All Time, Thompson has received Lifetime Achievement Awards for Songwriting on both sides of the Atlantic from the Americanas in Nashville to Britain’s BBC Awards, and the prestigious Ivor Novellos. In 2011, Thompson was the recipient of the Order of the British Empire personally bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.  Most recently he was nominated for Artist of the Year by the Americana Music Honors & Awards. All tickets for this performance are $35.

Singer and violinist Amanda Shires will open the evening. Shires has performed as a member of the Texas Playboys, Thrift Store Cowboys and Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit and has released four solo albums.

Other performers scheduled for the 2014-2015 Artist Series at Miami Middletown’s Dave Finkelman Auditorium include Hot Rize with special guests Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers on Nov. 22, Carlos Núñez and The April Verch Band on March 14 and The Travelin’ McCourys and the Gibson Brothers on April 11.

Artist Series performances at Miami Hamilton’s Parrish Auditorium include the Carolina Chocolate Drops on Oct. 24, throat singers Huun Huur Tu with native instruments and authentic costumes on Nov. 15 and Balsam Range and Helen Highwater on Feb. 28.
