Griffin House is a pretty happy man. He has a trifecta of a good life – MUSIC, GOLF and FAMILY.
Nothing is overnight, but for the athletically gifted House, who shocked his family by turning down a golf scholarship to college in order to focus on making music, things have moved along quite well.
When he left Springfield OH for college, House couldn’t play the guitar nor had he ever written a song. But, not to be deterred, he took a couple lessons and put that creative writing major to work penning a song for his old high school girlfriend which brought her to tears when he played it for her. There was no turning back then. He was hooked…
“What I was drawn to was the power of the song, how it could affect people emotionally.”
Soon after graduating, House moved to Nashville and released his first album, Upland (2003). He started playing out regularly and, within months, he was headlining. Within a year, he’d signed with Vancouver based label, Nettwerk, and, with is band, recorded LOST & FOUND (2004) in just five days. He spent most of the subsequent three years on the road, recording several “direct-to-fan” releases, a pair of EPs (House of David Vol. 1 & 2) and the 2006 digital release Homecoming.
From being featured on the CBS Sunday Morning Show, to touring with the likes of John Mellencamp and the Cranberries, House has continued to gain national recognition headlining his own tour across the U.S. His intelligent and heart-felt lyrics and melodies in such songs as “The Guy Who Says Goodbye to You Is Out of His Mind” and “Better Than Love” from his 8th release BALLS have garnered commercial and critical acclaim.
Last year, Griffin contributed to the Jackson Browne Tribute album ‘Looking Into You’ with his amazing cover of Barricades of Heaven.
“Griffin House, who transforms a Browne deep cut, “The Barricades of Heaven,” into a riveting tour de force that makes the song sound like an unearthed treasure.” ~Sam Gnerre, LA Daily
His songs continue to reach the masses behind the scenes as well. Griffin’s song “The Way I Was Made” is currently being featured in ESPN’s Fan Hall of Fame Commercial. Watch it here . It’s fitting that ESPN picked up on House’s music; though he gave up that golf scholarship, he has continued to hone his skills on the course and was recently included in GOLF DIGESTS Oct ’14 issue tied at #6 in their TOP 100 in MUSIC poll — Golf Digest ‘Top 100 in Music’ AND, if that weren’t enough, recently completed a series of theater shows – The Cash Legacy: A Musical Tribute to the Man in Black StudioTenn:The Cash Legacy
New – “Songs for a Prisoner” (Griffin House LIVE from Prison) , a 5-song EP was recorded LIVE from inside a TN Prison and released digitally on Black Friday. PREVIEW Songs for a Prisoner
For Griffin House, who lives in Nashville with his wife and two adorable little girls, things are pretty darn good
….and, there is so much more to come.
