New England based troubadour Shawn Taylor, brings his ‘wandering roots’ music to Newport KY, on his “Balance” CD release tour.  “Balance” is Taylor’s 4th independent original release, which wanders from Appalachia to reggae, folk to rock to soul to time twisting finger-style guitar jaunts and gut busting blues; exploring disparate characters and situations, in a search for balance.

“His keen eye, soul-drenched vocals and steadfast acoustic finger-picking punctuate his musical canvas with a skillful, heartfelt flair reminiscent of troubadours John Prine, John Gorka and Bob Dylan,” declared Metronome Magazine, Boston. “But make no mistake, Taylor is his own voice. Shawn Taylor is one of the finest singer-songwriters on the scene today.”

He’s been a traveling troubadour for over a decade, having shared the stage with folks such as Maria Muldaur, Sarah Potenza, Caravan Of Thieves, Peter Mulvey, and Vance Gilbert, but his wandering roots run deeper. His father was a gypsy, computer whiz, Vietnam vet. His mother grew up a military ‘brat,’ moving base to base across the US and Europe. Shawn was born in Ohio and raised in Massachusetts, but lived in four states before he turned one.  In 1996 he left college to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. He also completed Vermont’s Long Trail and California’s John Muir Trail, often bringing trail experiences and characters to his songs.

To this day he travels with a tent and the same adventurous wandering spirit. Now though, he’s packing a guitar and harmonicas, and four tires replaced his boots. But it’s still all about the search for balance in music and in life.
