Last month, Low Cut Connie released their critically-acclaimed fifth studio album Dirty Pictures (Part 2) that was just named one of Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Albums of 2018 so far. In his four-star review, David Fricke called the record “a stand-alone triumph of missionary zeal.”

In the midst of a summer tour with Social Distortion and upcoming festival apperances at Rock The Garden, Newport Folk Festival, Pickathon and more, Low Cut Connie has shared a video for their cover of Alex Chilton’s “Hey! Little Child” from Dirty Pictures (Part 2).

“Alex Chilton is one of my songwriting heroes. What a mercurial genius,” says frontman Adam Weiner. “We recorded our version of ‘Hey! Little Child’ in the same room in Ardent where he did the original. We are on the road constantly and spend a lot of time in divey bars talking to local yokels and shooting pool. Roy Power and his crew had the good sense to hang with us a couple nights snapping pictures of the band in our scruffy off-stage moments. It may be my favorite LCC video yet.”

Recently, Adam Weiner was interviewed on NPR’s Morning Edition with NPR Music critic Ann Powers stating, “[Adam] Weiner’s songs share something in common with Bruce Springsteen’s. ‘He’s looking at characters who are a bit on the edge, but who are also all-American,’ she says. ‘This is classic stuff, from Steinbeck to today. And he taps into that on this album in really tender, moving ways.'”

NPR Music featured the album as a First Listen saying, “Across five albums of piano-driven rock and soul, Low Cut Connie has proven masterfully fluent in the foundational languages of Western pop, living at the crossroads where the church house meets the roadhouse, or where the Dew Drop Inn meets CBGB… The blood that pumps through the Philadelphia band’s work comes from a place that’s fresh, original, and truly pledged to rock and roll.”

Over the past 7 years and a now annual 120 shows a year, the band has grown their cult following to include fans like President Barack Obama, who included their song “Boozophilia” on his summer Spotify summer playlist and invited Weiner to the White House. Sir Elton John made the band a staple on his Beats 1 radio show Rocket Hour and invited Weiner on the show for an interview, where he proclaimed, “I love the album so much. I love the band… It’s so great to hear a piano-based band. It’s great to hear you keeping that kind of music alive.”
