The Claudettes are touring in advance of the late-2019 release of their new album HIGH TIMES IN THE DARK produced by Grammy winner Ted Hutt (Violent Femmes, The Devil Makes Three, Old Crow Medicine Show, Lucero, Dustbowl Revival). Also coming soon: a new animated video created over more than a year by “Metalocalypse” illustrator Daniel Vincent Bigelow.
The Claudettes won a raft of rhapsodic press for their last album (released in the spring 2018 on Yellow Dog Records), DANCE SCANDAL AT THE GYMNASIUM! Helmed with vintage flair by Grammy-wining producer Mark Neill (Black Keys, Old 97’s), this album earned widespread acclaim and radio play, prompting the Kurland Agency–one of the world’s most respected jazz booking agents–to take on the Chicago band for international bookings in 2019.
Bridging the last and the new Claudettes albums are two other videos from 2018. The first: a stop-motion animated video for “Taco Night Material” (a song from DANCE SCANDAL AT THE GYMNASIUM!) created by Brooklyn photographer/artist Kate Stone. This video, which took eight hours to create every 30 seconds of footage, was made using a diorama-like set and was filmed entirely by hand with no digital manipulation. BILLBOARD magazine will exclusively premiere the video on October 17, 2018, and a link will be available thereafter. Then, later this fall, the Claudettes will debut the animated video for “The Sun Will Fool You,” a new song from the forthcoming album. This video was hand-drawn by Daniel Vincent Bigelow, an acclaimed Metalocalypse illustrator living in L.A.
The touring lineup: Berit Ulseth on vocals, bandleader Johnny Iguana on keyboards and vocals, Zach Verdoorn on bass/guitar and vocals and Michael Caskey on drums.
