“Nashville’s Upset Boy & the Queens are back with a new six-song EP. This time out there’s less country and more alt-rock grit than past releases. The opening track, ‘Kink,’ has a dark edge to it, and has glam tinges mixed in with ’90s noise rock, in this dark underbelly of a song about forbidden love. ‘Kickstand’ is also ’90s alt-rock fare, while ‘Kamikaze’ is a high-tension sort of track, channeling an Amphetamine Reptile sort of vibe. ‘Scatterbrain’ reminds me of a grunged-up ballad, and ‘Funny Way’ mixes angular noise rock with the only hint of Americana on the EP. The EP closes with ‘Reckless,’ something that could have come out of 1990’s Seattle. If you’re a fan of 90’s alt-rock, give this a spin. I think you’ll be a fan.” -Paul Silver, Jersey Beat
Earlier this month, Nashville rock band Upset Boy and the Queens released Hissy Fit of Destruction, a six-track EP that moves between ’90s alt-rock, riff-heavy grit, and jagged post- punk tension. Order the EP here. This week the band hits the road for a trio of shows (below).

“Hissy Fit of Destruction is about burnout, recovery, and the mess you make on the way to starting over, which is fitting because I wrote most of these songs while recovering from vocal nodules,” says vocalist/guitarist Chris Watts.
“I will always love our first EP Silver Dreamer. It’s a snapshot of a brand-new band just trying to get its feet off the ground while battling personnel changes and vocal injuries.
“In a world of Suno and AI, we tried to make this record as human as possible. We recorded a few tracks live to tape with Starlin Browning at Dial Back Sound in Water Valley, Mississippi, and did the rest here in Nashville at Greenland Studio with Joseph Lekkas of Palm Ghosts. We had a lot of fun writing and recording these tunes, and I think you can hear it.”
